Do you invest?
We do make investments and we also, in cases where we have worked with the company for a while, take an "equity plus cash for advisory" position: these are more complicated arrangements and are understandably only possible after a longer working relationship.
We also co-invest and make scouting recommendations onto our Angel and VC networks. Due to recent changes in regulations, we cannot refer to our HNWI networks.
Because we invest, and work with investors on DD and pitching / CEO evaluations, we have a solid and current appreciation of what makes a company "investable".
Why did you create Scaling Club?
For two reasons: firstly, at Gyrilla, we only work 1:1 with companies in healthcare, fintech, energy and Govt / social causes; yet, the foundational business advice to founders who are growing or scaling their businesses is the same regardless of industry. How do you address cashflow? How do you manage and motivate a team? How do you communicate strategy to different stakeholders?
Secondly, we wanted to help people learn quickly and flexibly, like you might at a gym where there are lots of places to learn a skill and practice it either solo or with others.
Scaling Club encourages founders (in a group setting) to be masterminds for each other across different tech-driven industries. We tap advisors, MBAs, Angels and other investors to provide the formal business training or corporate experience that you might have missed out on whilst pursuing your dream of founding a company. As a result, you get to learn from case studies that relate to startups, work through scenarios, learn how other startups management teams at your stage busted through blockages and made key decisions.
